Every Six Months

Good: LDS General Conference broadcast in our home.

Better: Watching the beginning of LDS General Conference from the comfort of our cozy bed.

Best: Partaking of the apostles' and leaders' messages eating amazingly delicious homemade cinnamon rolls and washing them down with a tall glass of milk.

This one comes from my childhood. My mom started the tradition with the famous cinnamon rolls. I add brown sugar & more butter, let them rise a little longer to make them giant and so I call them mine. Why do traditions always include not-so-good-for-you food?

Our kids always look forward to the latest conference packets I put together; their attention spans vary greatly. We always end up watching conference on two TV's just so the listeners can enjoy the real message without all the I needs, I wants, tattling, poking, proding, and moving around that takes place through the course of a couple hours. A bonus this time around is that our surround sound throughout our home and onto our courtyard works beautifully, so we broadcast the conference throughout the rooms and you can go anywhere to listen. Church at home twice a year is a real treat and we all look forward to all the bonuses that come with it, including NOT waking up at 6:45 to get 6 kids ready for 8:30 am church. Who knew 'sleeping in' would mean snoozing until 7:30. Hooray for General Conference for more reasons than the great messages! Here's the recipe if you feel so inclined (you'll have to click on it to enlarge it unless you have super-power wonder-twin eyes):

Our double ovens died 6 weeks ago and our new one (with a convection option) won't arrive for another week, so we didn't get cinnamon rolls this conference :(

I've found that unflavored dental floss works better than thread.

What???? No raisins???? I boil a hearty handful of raisins in water in the microwave, to soften them, then run them under water too cool them off. I also squeeze out all the moisture before sprinkling them on the sugar. Shay, I always used brown sugar on mine when you kids were growing up. Sometimes I added chopped pecans on top of the sugar and other times I'd cover the bottom of the baking pan with pancake syrup and chopped pecans to make sticky pecan rolls.

Glad to know the tradition lives on!

Oooooh, I put brown sugar on mine, too! It makes all the difference!

Does that say NINE cups of flour? NINE? You must need one monstrous mixer for that. They look amazing tho'!

I LOVE cinnamon rolls!! I am definitely going to try these. Do you have all of your recipes typed up so cute? This would seem like a Shay thing that i have thought of doing, but of course have not...yet!

Ohh Shay, you are a good mommy. This was our first conference at home (we usually go to my mom's house) and it was not quite perfect. Our children resented us, we heard very little of the talks (we were all in the same room because--get ready--we only have one TV in our home), and everybody was restless, if not down-right ornery by the time it was all said and done. Pie and I discussed strategy afterwards, and wouldn't you know it--I felt like I need to make some fun traditions for the kids. So the ideas/recipes were quite on point (as usual). And no offense to the raisins or raisin lovers out there, but raisins? Bleck-ewwy.

Conference was great this weekend. It's so nice to be able to stay at home and watch it, and here in FL it doesn't start until 12pm. Its nice to sleep in, but doesn't finish until 6pm! I am way jealous of the cinnamon rolls. They looked oh so yummy!

Okay...here's my confession: I can't make bread or rolls. Every attempt has fallen flat (literally). I need a Shay tutorial. Are you game?

Thanks for your love and support this week-I need it!

Conference is the best from home. Your rolls look Yum! I'm bread/roll challenged too, but everytime I see recipes like this I feel like I should give it another shot. Thanks for sharing:)

As I read your post, I was hoping you would include the recipe. Yeah! Thanks for putting it on there and I'll have to give it a try.

Allison, I'll take the tutorial with you! I made Shayla's (tried I should say) Lion Rolls and they didn't rise like they should. I had them one Thanksgiving in Utah and I probly ate 10 rolls!
