This year our smell of Christmas will have to come from my "Christmas Memories" scented candle and the 'live' wreath that will eventually adorn our front door! Picking out and purchasing a Christmas tree in San Diego just isn't the same as in Utah. No signs of falling snow that makes the ground a muddy slush to wade through--no freezing kids running around just to stay warm and then taking a dive in the snow getting the mud slush all over their clothes, no trying to get the tree strapped to the top of a mini van that was already falling apart. And, no stumbling with it into the house while leaving a huge trail of spiders, critters, and needles all down the hallway along with the slushy mud snow foot tracks. One trip to the local 'tent' on the dirt lot here in San Diego and 150 bucks later it seemed a lot easier, but lacked the memories and fun (and cost twice as much as in UT) so I said NO MORE! We kept our $150 and off to Costco we went.
It was the most painless process this year--no more spending hours to lay out the strings of lights to see which little booger was making the whole string worthless! And the best part, no more vacuuming up the fallen needles daily! Not to mention how the tree is an obvious fire hazard Christmas morning after 1/2
its needles are shed and the scent is long gone and what is remaining is a lovely shade of brown. Or, screaming after each needle-poke when removing the lights and decorations--I got smart one year and wore gloves.
Maybe I'm just trying to make myself feel better for giving up on a long-time tradition now gone. This is a budget-friendly decision and now I think I'll sit back, pour a nice frothy cup of Stephens hot cocoa and enjoy my gorgeous tree and my "Christmas Memories" candle...
That really sounded nice!
Or I'll just clean up Lexie's puke every 1/2 hour and hold my breath so that my gag reflex doesn't get the best of me...and glance at my beautiful tree once in a while. Merry stomach flu..I mean Christmas to us!! I can't remember a time between Thanksgiving and Christmas that we didn't have the stomach flu at some point...here's to hoping it doesn't get passed around for 3 weeks! Vivie thinks the Christmas tree is pretty too...gives her something to slobber & smile about.

That is the most adorable picture of Viv, I almost didn't recognize her without her Bow! I hope Lex feels better, Pay is sad she couldn't play! So, she's throwing up every half hour? Yikes!! Your tree looks gorgeous.
Your tree is purty! I'm so sorry Lexie is sick! Poor baby. I was wondering why I didn't get one of her big hugs Sat. night. Give her a kiss from me (you'll probably want to make in on the forehead!) Loves!
Poor Lexie! Your tree is beautiful though! Candles probably smell more than the tree itself anyway, right? Looks like you have just as much fun dressing up your girls as you did your tree!
The tree looks gorgeous!! I grew up with an artificial tree and wouldn't know the first thing about a live tree...I can't believe people pay $150 bucks every year. I got mine with a coupon at Michael's for I think $100 and love it!!! Live trees seem like a lot of work, but I guess traditions are the fun thing about Christmas.
already lit trees is the way to go...I'll never go back!
I've been up since 3am myself with throwing up kids. They are better now, though (hopefully) I can't stand one more day cooped up in this house! I have a really hard time keeping myself from throwing up too! Merry Christmas!
Shay....I love the tree! Where did you find your star? I have one VERY similar, if not identical. We're going to go buy our live tree this week. I can't bring myself to buy the pre-lit just yet. I'm sure I'll crack eventually (and it wouldn't be hard to do if we were looking at $150 for a 3-4 week tree!). We can still find nice trees under $40. I'm sure I'll be calling you one year soon after hitting an after Christmas sale w/ a big 'ol pre-lit tree & pine scented Yankee Candle in my car saying..."I caved!" ;)
Take care! I hope Lex feels better. That is NO fun.
Lovin' the night picture of the tree. It look much more magical.
We chop down our tree every year, but I definitely see the benefits of the fake tree - my arms were red and swollen after putting all my lights on!
Shay...question! How do I make a super cute Christmas backround like you for my blog? It's bugging me that I still have a BLUE backround in December. It just seems wrong.
Poor Lexie I wan tot come be sick with her. It would be more fun. Instead I am just grouchy sick mom this week. xoxo to them all!
I don't know if I can ever go to the fake tree thing. I did it one year & it felt like a fake Christmas. I would no doubt change my mind if I lived in a state where the cost was so high for a tree. I would never pay $150 for a tree. It was a budget decision & an excellent decision at that.
