I have a lot of grand ideas that just never pan out. This year's pumpkin patch / apple picking trip was another one of those. Big surprise. So we visited our local farm in wine country--which was a step or two above the makeshift farm on the corner of the busiest street in town...
at least for a photo op!
We got there to find that a pumpkin no bigger than a cantaloupe was $6, and a good size plump pumpkin waiting to become mr. jack-o-lantern cost $20!
Total rip.
We can go to Peltzer Farms to see the pigs race or watch others pay $5 to enter the the petting zoo, walk through the corn maize, or see the horse's walk in a circle. And the kids' favorite part-- watching them 'pee like a horse.' According to them, that was the most exciting part.
But I will not spend 100 big ones on pumpkins that will most certainly still be sitting on my porch and rotting in about a month! Nope, Peltzer...I'm not a suck-a! But thanks for the fun photos!

I remembered seeing a $3.99 sign in front of the pumpkin bins at our local CVS pharmacy...yup, the stinkin' pharmacy. So off to CVS we went. And we loaded up six giant plump and beautiful pumpkins into a grocery cart instead of a cute wagon or wheelbarrow & got out of there for less than $25! What a deal. CVS, who knew.

...and then they were all happy as little larks & the begging began... to actually carve these plump pharmacy pumpkins. Stay tuned... maybe these beauties will be jack-o-lanterns this year. Maybe.

Love the pumpkin story! similar to ours this year!
Hang in there Shayla - you'll find your place up there.
The pumpkin story was great.. ha ha. YOur kids are SOOOO DANG CUTE! My gosh. I loved the pictures.
I am totally with you we went to Fresh n Easy for $2.50 per pumpkin. I have such a tough time with this holiday anyway...and the costumes too. I think I am cheap!
Hey - FREE pumpkins in Mt. Pleasant!!!! Just visit our neighbors patch - any takers????? I have a couple that are going to become Pumpkin Chocolate Cookies probably tomorrow. YUM
We did the same thing. The pumpkin patch was a rip off so we took pics and then went to Trader Joes and got pumpkins for $3.49. They were the best pumpkins ever!!! Cute pics of the family!
We miss the cheap pumpkins in Utah, too. I swear they were practically free. And it's so hot here they rot in 2 days. Cute pictures, though! I can't believe you let Monson wear that BYU shirt after that TCU game last week. haha :)
Hey, we just went there on Saturday and thought the same thing. We did the corn maze and walked around. Then left with Emma crying because she didn't get her face painted. Our friends told us about it, but didn't mention the amount of money you would have to spend to enjoy it. Oh well -- we got a huge pumpkin from Walmart for $5.00!
When you mentioned the begging, I thought your kids had started trick-or-treating early. :)
So, is Brayden going out this year or are you following the 11 years and out rule?
I was totally the same way at Bates Nut Farm. We got in free, we left with 3 tiny pumpkins that cost.75 each. There was NO WAY I was going to shell out $5 for a mediocre, mid-sized pumpkin! :) And don't worry about the apple picking; it truly was slim pickings this year, due to the 'water shortage'. So next year is calling my name too! :)
We went to Peltzer too- last Saturday. It would have been fun to see you guys there!
Cute, cute, cute! Shay, you look like one of the kiddos...you look great & they are getting TALLer. Well, you did better than us w/ pumpkin deals. I snagged ours at the grocery store for $5 ea. Our farm was a rip off too.
And queen of creativity.....You've got to carve! If the weather cooperates I'm hoping to make this an outdoors mess, I mean "family bonding activity." Enjoy!
Wonderful pictures! No wonder the pumpkins cost so much, they have tons of stuff to take photos in front of! Our little pumpkin patch that we go to each year is really reasonably priced, but not as many great photos ops! Have fun carving out those pumpkins!
