It's WAY PAST bedtime. I'm rocking Lexie, and Izzie is brushing her teeth for the 2nd time in the last fifteen minutes (at least one out of my six gets the hygiene thing)!
I tucked Lexie in bed and Izzie is now combing out her hair and trying to find just the right flower to adorn her hair...
I told her to get in bed....she comments, "I need to go to bed with my hair done, Mom" (duh, don't you know?)
She climbs in bed so proud of herself..."Lexie, do you like my hair? I'm all ready to go to bed now."
Where is she from? 1948? I know my grandma Brower used to put her hair into pin curls before she went to bed, but that was like 100 years ago! But certainly I don't--and sometimes I wake up and go through half the day with the same hairdo from the day before. I think I just may be a girly-freak factory!
Perhaps she has to do her hair at night because a few weeks ago I made like a gazillion flowers on clippies and adorned them with some bling...She, like her mommie, she can't do without the bling. Yup, that's what it is. I think I'm realizing that when I do things, I REALLY DO THEM. I mean, I go all-out. No, I couldn't just have 10 flowers for my girls...I have to have every color, shape, and size...some with bling, some without...and at least two for piggies or for their twinner outfits, sometimes three or four. But for anyone who sees my girls everyday (and there are four of them)...they always have a flower or a bow. And Izzie is the least 'girly girl' at our house....maybe it's a toss-up between McKenzie & Izzie. Lexie is as girly as they come. End of story.I found two darling flowers at my new favorite store,
Dear Lizzie, in Utah (a boutique and French bistro where all your girly dreams come true:). Anyway, I bought the two (all the budget would allow), got in the mood...bought all my copycat flowers and bling at Roberts, and went to town. It only took like a month to get to it, but waalaa! My girls have bling! And here's a tip about storing all those big clippies, bows and baby headbands...an over the door towel/coat hanger with several hooks. You then place on each hook a strand of long wide grosgrain or other ribbon hanging from an "O" ring or a "D" ring and secure each clippie to the ribbon. I scored this door hanger for $6.99 at one of my other favs--Marshalls. I should open an etsy store with my h
air bling! But about a million others are doing the same thing. So not so original...but a fraction of the cost. Works for me.

Your highly complimentary comments made me chuckle out loud! We have just returned from the community pool and I sure have not been in the best "fun Mommy" mood, and I think my husband wants to wring my resentful little neck. Didn't want to be outside in my swimsuit, just started day 2 of a diet that I am sure to HATE (I have discovered I really do love healthy foods, I especially love to wash them down with a few little debbie's) and so my uncomfortable/crabby mood disorder is officially in over drive. Pity the poor fool who messes with me! So when you said I was so fun and full of good humor, I had to laugh (as only someone with such natural good humor can!). Love all the pretty's. Totally missed out on that with Jos, but when your Lizzy needed to be beautiful to go to bed, it reminded me of Jon recently, when I told him to stop obsessing about his pajamas and go to bed. He wanted to look cool. I said, You are going to bed, for Heaven's sake, you don't have to look cool! To which he responded, But Mom, cool is my style!
So jealous of your paragliding. That looked amazing. And Maggiano's is FANTASTIC. So NOT what I should be thinking about right now! And Vivi is so cute with all her mischievous deeds! I had to think your reference to stairs and fences were inspired by recent Tommy Events;)
Thanks for always making me laugh in your posts!
Whoa! I can tell you have 4 girls, I have never before seen so many hairbands! I have a tomboy who HATES to have her hair done. I'm hoping the little one will let me turn her into a girlie girl!
OK, this one made me LOL!!! I haven't ventured out to the flower clippy world, maybe b/c I KNOW my 2 littlest gals will want a door covered with flower clippies just like their cuz's!!! Totally girly girls, and you gotta love 'em. Your girls must LOVE all of their pretty blinged out flower accessories. You're a dream mommy:)
And do you want to hear my theory for why you have 4 girls? After seeing the red carpet rolled out for Lexie w/ her adorable nursery, Izzy and Vivs made a beeline for your family to be princessed up too:) ...among other reasons, I'm sure:)
Great post, Shay!
Yep it's too bad Rachel won't put anything too flowery or cute in her hair cuz those are darling!
You have inspired me. Serra sells those things & the few that we do have our never in a place that we can find them. I think I need to get one of those hooks to hang them on. You're a genious.
Ok I love your flowers! I have made a couple for Mattie and she loves to wear them in her hair. I actually have been thinking of making more. I have used the rhinestones in the middle, but not the pearls. Those are so pretty. What kind of glue do you use? And, do you use the alligator clips or different kinds? I am also trying to make those twirly ribbon clips, like the kind you can buy at Gymboree. And, I think Izzie does her hair at night like Gma Brower, because she looks so much like her!
Enjoy the days of clippies, bows and head bands w/ bling, because it doesn't last. A couple years ago Jacklyn told me she was too old for bows in her hair...I'm still getting over it!
Totally laughing here 'cause I just did the same thing last week. Sammy's worn a flower to school everyday. Luckily, I only had to make one of each!
Okay you should seriously start your own little company and sell them!! You have such a talent for those kinds of things! Addy's lucky if she gets a brush run through her hair as you can tell from the pics on my blog:)
Heather...the pearls in the middle are large craft pearls with two holes...so I sew them onto the flower. And I usually sew the layers of the flower together as well (instead of using glue). There are also some large clear beads that are round in there....and then some of the flat mega rhinestone ones too which I glue with hot glue on the high setting...for instant gratification! I use alligator clips and cover them with ribbon for a clean look and I also use those snappy clips---don't know what they call them (also cover them with ribbon(as in the little yellow flower--you can see the ribbon covering the clip).
Can I commission you to make some for me? Do you just use a glue gun? SOOOO cute!
p.s. what kind of clips do you use?
Hey Shayla! I LOVE your blog, you are seriously SOOO funny (and a great writer) and your family has the most hilarious stories! By the Way I have always had major hair envy of all your girls and their accesories. They ALWAYS look so put together and have the best blonde hair! I don't know how you do it! Also Happy Birthday and congrats on your hang gliding adventure..there's a whole other envy category:) La Jolla is so beautiful, a perfect place to go!
So, where do I place my order? I would love to get some for Savannah's hair but I have absolutely NO talent when it comes to anything crafty. You never cease to amaze me with all you do...you're one amazing mom!
Hey, I totally understand why Izzie wants to looks good to go to bed. The Sandman visits here every night and she's heard all about the Tooth Fairy - who not only visits, but leaves money! Not to mention, guardian angels who watch over her! Izzie has it RIGHT!
Cute as can be. Never thought to add the bling. Love it!
