Daylight Savings Bites. I don't understand why we still adopt this century-old tradition. Especially when church starts at 8:30 am and the alarm doesn't go off! Okay, the alarm went off...I was in REM cycle 3 and ignored it thinking it was still 3 am or something. But we made it on time--all 8 of us. Is it a crime to be half asleep during sacrament meeting? I'm thinking we should earn some stars for even remembering!
I'm really enjoying teaching my Valiant 11's. I am a bit of a crazy teacher--I do off-the-wall things that will make the kids remember what they're learning. Today we had our lesson with six 11-year-olds shoved into Lexie & Izzie's princess tent. It took a while for the kids to get over staring at Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty to figure out what the lesson was about and who I was supposed to be (King Benjamin). The jury's still out on whether the concepts are getting through, but I like the change-of-pace even if they think I'm a bit crazy. On the way home we had this fabulous idea for the rest of our beautiful Sunday afternoon. Our grand idea of Sunday nap time would have to wait! A Family Sunday stroll along the Carlsbad boardwalk...what could be better? The kids took their scooters and I think a few dozen people broke their necks staring at the freak-show (We watched them count the heads as we strolled by and then they'd do a whip-lash turn after they passed the Izzie caboose on her Dora car.) I don't think I'll ever get used to that.
After I mentioned ice-cream at Cessy's to the kids (don't judge me! Couldn't resist..not a usual Sabbath occurence) I couldn't do a take-back or I'd have a mutiny for the LONG mile + walk back to the car! Lexie kept on saying, "Okay, this is the deal...we'll go get ice-cream, okay, mom?" I guess I'm justifying. Not a good lesson for the kids, but my 3-year-old knows the commitment pattern! Next time--kite flying. We need to enjoy our beach community as a family more than we have in the past. I'm sure my kids will look like little Indians when we go to Seattle next week with their California winter tans.

Don't you love those stares from people thinking, "Do ALL those kids belong to them?!?" And if I can get through an outing with all 4 kids without hearing, "Wow. You've got your hands full," it's a Christmas miracle! It always makes me want to reply, "Yes aren't I lucky and I am pregnant with twins!"
Mike and I go to Dr. Kurt Marler (aka President Marler and also Mike's uncle) in Escondido and he is great. We took Gavin to Dr. Kevin Salgado in Vista and he is also great! Let me know if you need further contact info- mandmkolb@hotmail.com
Sounds like an enjoyable Sunday! We stayed home to all get fully better but were feeling pretty cooped by the late afternoon. We went to Cardiff State Beach and let the kids play a little. Every time we go to the beach I think about how we should go more often!
Lexie has a career in negotiations - she organizes the facts and presents her case - gotta love the mind of an almost 4 year old! Has she told any "stories" on her stay with us last year?
cute photo of Izz enjoying her cone - this is what a family Sunday should be - enjoying each other and nature!
I absolutely love that family photo! Gotta love sundresses in winter. Caroline actually wore her new sundress w/ a sweater last Sunday in 42 degree weather. She shivered to and from the car, but fashion comes at a price sometimes:)
Oh, and I'd be taking in the beach too if I were your neighbor....and the ice-cream too;) You're too funny.
Oh, and you'd be Christina's teacher! Sounds like you're so on the ball. Christina's teacher is top notch too...she has the kids marking scriptures and hopefully better prepared for mutual. It's nice to have teachers who obviously love the kids and put time and preparation into their calling. As a mom, I appreciate my kids' wonderful teachers SO much. Kudos to you!
I miss you! When I read about the princess tent for 11 year olds, I laughed so hard! As for all the looks and the comments from people about your "six little heads," I KNOW EXACTLY what you're talking about with the whole "freak show" thing! When we were in Hawaii last year on Waikiki--Wow did we get some nasty stares and stares of disbelief. But my favorite was when we were in the elevator at the hotel and the people that joined us (they barely fit in the elevator with us), OUT-LOUD verbally counted the children, "1, 2, 3, 4, 5!" Then there was a pause, and just before they left the elevator, the mom turned to me, grabbed my arm and said, "You're my hero!" THAT has never left me and it never will! It sure did help to make up for all the crusties I had received!
You motivate me! We ended up going to a whole other ward for church on Sunday due to our lameness in sleeping past the time. My girls NEVER sleep past 6am...but Sunday? They slept til 9am!!! YEAH! So, we missed our ward. Good times. We had fun driving up to Julian that day too.
